On the road again

The forecast is still looking good for our Thursday departure and we head out of the marina about 6.30am.  It's calm and overcast and there is definitely a change in the weather.

It remained wet and cold yesterday afternoon and we tried to clean the yacht as a layer of thin red dust has settled everywhere from the wind storms.  It's a bugger to get off and even after hosing and scrubbing it has stained the fibreglass.

We are heading North to the top of Mykonos and then our bearing is due East.  It's a miserable day, weather wise, it's grey water and grey skies and I'm feeling sea sick.

We have a cross swell but must be in a current as we are averaging over 8 knots for the first few hours with the head sail up.  A few Mykonos dolphins come to bid us farewell. Greg gets out his fishing rod for the first time but I think we are moving to quickly for the lure to swim properly.

A few hours in and it starts to rain with a cold wind, so we dash to get our wet weather gear on.  It's freezing now.  We continue East until we come to the bottom tip of Ikaria Island.  We have decided to head for a Port there as we don't want to spend any more time in the cold and wet than we have to.

The seas calm down but it's still sprinkling as we come into Ayios Kirikos on the south side of the Island. There is a small village and jetty with pretty shallow water but we manage to tie up along side the wharf safely.

We have some refreshments and take a walk into to the village.  We arrive just as a protest march is going on, but we can't work out what's it about.  We have a little shop and stop for a drink before heading back to the yacht.

It's a quite night tonight, I cook some pasta and we have an early night.
